QuarterDown.com aimed to be a different kind of game news site, with less focus on reviews and press releases and more on editorial content and discussion regarding video games. Siva Katir was one of the two developers that built, launched, and maintained it until it was closed in June 2010.
QuarterDown runs on a heavily modified Joomla back-end using the Joomla modules K2 for the content management and JComments for the commenting system. Unlaunched but fully developed is also a forum system; due to the site not being updated any longer this will never be released.
The goals of the site's design were very simple, focus on pleasing colors and easy navigation. Many game sites are extremely cluttered and busy with literally hundreds of links per page. QuarterDown was dedicated to the "KISS" motto and accomplished its simplicity through the site's design and content layout. Everything was designed and implemented with an eye towards usability as well, making the comment system intuitive and yet still full featured was one of the large focuses. The version of JComments now being used is vastly different than the base install. Nearly everything about it has been changed, from how comments were posted to the server, to how deep comments could nest. It was all customized to the site owner's wishes.
